Population: In 1749 13,489 of whom 6,657 were free and 6,832 were
slaves
In 2000 census 25,257 of whom were all free
Anson County was named in honor of British Admiral Lord George
Anson. In 1750 Anson County was formed from Bladen County. At
that time it reached all the way to the Mississippi River. There are
several counties that once was a part of Anson County such as;
Alexander, Burke, Gaston, Guilford, Lincoln, Mecklenburg,
Montgomery, Richmond, Rockingham, Stanly, Tryon and Union
counties, these are only a few, there are many more.
Anson; A county in the S. part of North Carolina, bordering on South
Carolina, had 650 square miles. Cotton being the staple product and
Indian Corn, also cultivated. In 1850 the quality of cotton was the
greatest produced by any county in the state, except Surry.
536 square county miles now boardered by Richmond,Stanly,Union
and Chesterfield County, SC.
The county seat is Wadesboro.
Average temperture of 76 degrees Fahrenheit. January is the coldest
month, average temp. of 42.5 degrees. July is the hottest month,
average temp. 78.9 degrees. Annual average rainfall, 41.52 inches.
Centrally located, Anson is approximately one hour from Charlotte
(50 miles), Two hours from Raleigh (115 miles), and two hours from
Greensboro (100 miles).
Anson County consist of: Ansonville, Lilesville, McFarlan, Morven,
Peachland, Polkton and Wadesboro.
